This will save you money compared to the on-airport parking lot rates; you have better things to spend your money on.

Features that Make The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport an Excellent Flying Experience

The airport is overall small and relatively quiet. Free WiFi is available in the airport terminal's main level, which includes most gates, seating areas and, of course, the food courts. And yes, there are charging stations for all of your electronic devices.

The food at the airport will give you a foretaste of what is in store for you when you reach the city or allow you one final taste of a cuisine that is is a unique culinary tradition. For typical Crescent City fare, try Dook's Place.

Mother's Rooms provide seating and a changing table. There's a Mother's Room on each concourse once you pass through security. Check concourse maps for specific locations.

In the retail shops, you'll discover many varieties of New Orleans' favorite condiment: hot sauce.

Challenges that New Orleans Airport May Present

The signage that helps travelers navigate is rather minimal. However, as this is a smaller airport, this may not be as much of a problem as it would be for a larger airport hub.

Make sure that you have passed through the proper screening area for your concourse, or you'll be asked to go through again.

Overflow parking doesn't run a shuttle from the parking lot to the airport, so when the temperature is hot and humid, this can be taxing.

Expect to pay the standard prices for airport food and drink. You'll be tempted by New Orleans restaurants. Give in if the urge hits hit, but expect to pay for convenience and location.

Flying High and Living Up to the Louis Armstrong Legacy

The airport is named after favorite city son and jazz pioneer, Louis Armstrong.

Check out the free music playing in 4 different airport spaces. You can catch performances on the Big Stage pre-security, so this is a fine opportunity to enjoy a special moment with friends and family. The other venues are past the screening area, so you'll need a boarding pass to enjoy the music. Check the website for listings and locations

The History and the Future of The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport

When the airport first opened in 1940, it was called Moisant Field after John Moisant, a pilot who, in 1910, perished in a crash where the airport now lies. When it began welcoming commercial flights in 1947, the airport was located in a ginormous hanger-type construction. 1959 the current terminus-type building opened for business. To honor the 100th anniversary of Louis Armstrong's birth the airport acquired its new name.

There is currently work on expansion and improvement of the terminus, slated to open in 2019. The focal point is a centralized security checkpoint. There will be new eateries run by local chefs, new retail venues, a streamlined and contemporary look, and increased ease of navigation!
